Power

According to the Webster Dictionary, power is defined as a possession of controlling influence by mental or physical qualities. Power is also the ownership of authority. I believe that power can be achieved when someone holds superiority to another. Mentally powerful people are usually charismatic and convincing in order to gain trust and control over the chosen individuals.
Hitler is a perfect example of a powerful man. In his influential speeches Hitler blamed the Jews and Communists for Germany's misfortunes. He preached that all Germans must unite in order for this goal to succeed. At first, the Jews didn't see Hitler as a great threat, but when Hitler became chancellor and eventually took over the government they saw more clearly. The first thing he did was ended the Jews right to vote. Soon they were not allowed to marry a pure German, they could not hold positions as teachers, doctors, lawyers and so on. The Jews only then realized that Hitler was serious and many fled Germany. Hitler used propaganda to persuade the German people that he would make the country strong and powerful again. He also used propaganda against the Jews and other groups, who were considered enemies. Teachers had to belong to the Nazi party, and teach the children that the Jews were the source of all their problems. After he came into power, the Nazi party took control over every aspect of every day life. Hitler ordered the creation of a special police force, the Gestapo to make sure that all opponents would be eliminated. He also gave orders to set up a special force, the feared SS, which would be used to transport and take care of all political prisoners and people thought to be inferior. Hitler then persuaded Hindenburg to introduce "Protective Custody". This meant that suspects could be rounded up and held without trial; the ability to search houses, tap telephones, ban meetings and close down newspapers in the interest of "National Security" were all within the police's powers.
