Matter of Decision

When you are young your friends influence you a lot. My mother use to always tell me that I should be very careful in choosing my friends as my life will change with their actions. I never took it so seriously until one day when one incident changed my thinking. When I read the story The Prophecy by Anjana Appachana, I was reminded of my friend Reema. Reema was my friend in the junior college. We both were majoring in science and that is how we met each other. Reema was from Delhi and she lived in the girls hostel on the campus. On the other hand I lived just a few minutes away from the college and use to commute. In the story The Prophecy Amrita was from Banglore and stayed in the girls hostel with her friend Hemu. When she visited Dr. Kumar, Amrita discovered she was pregnant. Reema had a similar story where she found out she was pregnant. She could not tell her parents anything about it since they will disown her just the way Amrita could not tell her parents. .
My friend Reema shared many similar experiences with the character, Amrita, in The Prophecy. Like Amrita she hated her hostel because of the rules and regulations. She was very courageous and it did not make any difference to her what anybody thought of her. She had strong feelings and she could talk expressively. One day she called me and told me that she was sick. We decided to one of the lady doctor in town. We called Dr. Parag and made an appointment. It took us more than an hour to reach there. When we reached there the nurse told us to fill out a form. When we saw that some questions were tricky and so we left it out to talk to the doctor personally. But the nurse would not allow us to do that. She asked if something is wrong with Reema or me and I said it was Reema. Reema replied to her and said we will talk to the doctor. In the story, Amrita and Hemu had gone to the meet Dr. Kumar and Ms. Mehta had asked them some questions about their lives.
