Internal/external conflicts


            Dealing with conflicts is an everyday challenge to most people. Internal and external are two kinds of conflicts most people face. Authors incorporate conflicts in their writing to make the story more interesting. Conflicts are dealt with to the way the person chooses to deal with them. In the novel, A Separate Peace, maturity is an internal conflict with one of the characters. Fahrenheit 451 contains the conflict of the conformity to society. Lastly, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar has the conflict of whether or not the conspirators should do away with Antony. Conflicts are faced and dealt with everyday by ways they choose.
             There are many conflicts involved in the story A Separate Peace. One of the major conflicts of the story is that of the internal conflict with in Finny. This conflict refers to the stairs of maturity. Finny's conflict is whether or not he should try and grow up to fast and fall repeatedly down the stairs of maturity, or mature at the time Mother Nature has set for him to mature. Finny decides to mature to quickly and therefore suffers the consequences and falls down the stairs of maturity. When Finny falls of the tree and breaks his leg he is taking another step down from maturity. The doctor told Gene, " Sports are finish. As a friend you ought to help him face that and accept it. The sooner he does the better of he"ll be- (Knowles 814) Now that Finny has broken his leg, he has to face the consequences of trying to mature to quickly. Another time, he falls down the stairs and re-brakes his leg causing bone marrow to travel through his blood stream and stopping his heart. The conflict whether to try and walk down the stairs by himself, or wait to get better cost him his life. Gene never really solved the conflict because he died trying to grow up to fast. .
             In the novel, Fahrenheit 451, there are many conflicts. One major conflict of the novel was whether Montag should conform to government.
