American History X

I watched American History X which was directed by Tony Kaye, written by David McKenna, and it was made in 1998.
American History X is about a man named Derek who was a co-leader of a white supremacy group called the D.O.C. Derek started having a problem with minorities ever since his father was killed putting out a fire in a black neighborhood because he was white. Derek's younger brother Danny is assigned to write a paper about his brother because his history teacher believes that he is following the same footsteps as Derek did. .
Derek is let out of prison after three years for killing two black people because they were breaking in his truck. Being ashamed of his past, he gets Danny and himself out of the D.O.C. and tries to get his family living a better life.
The three key characters in the film are Derek, Danny, and the principal. Derek was a guy who everyone looked up to in the D.O.C. He commits a lot of hate crimes on the minorities around the area and eventually get sent to jail for three years. After he is let out, he regrets what he did and tries to make sure that his brother Danny doesn't follow the same path he did. Derek is a cold-hearted guy who doesn't care much about others, he doesn't get along with his family too well and will do pretty much anything to prove the point he is trying to make. .
Danny is like his brother. He doesn't like minorities and is also involved in the D.O.C. He doesn't get along with a black kid at his school and has a conflict with him through most of the film. Danny is a pretty simple character.
The principal is Danny's history teacher. He does some work with the police to track down some of the members of the D.O.C. He used to be Derek's old English teacher and got a lot of information about the D.O.C from him but now he is using Danny to get some information. .
I think the main symbol in this movie is the paper. It is just supposed to be for Danny's history class but it is basically the movie itself.
