The Future of Electronic Government ( A Student Essay)

The NPR developed the Results Act, which created networks and cross-agency partnerships for results. The Act fixed long-standing management challenges in specific agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Administration, Internal Revenue Service, the disability program in Social Security Administration, and the Federal Aviation Administration's air traffic control operations. .
Later during the Clinton and Gore second term the NPR had progressed on to implementing the goal of government serving people better. In order to meet this objective hundreds of federal organizations had committed to thousands of customer service standards and by 2000, 80 percent of managers saw goals aimed at meeting customer expectations. In addition, expanding the use of Internet gateways sites allowing one-stop transactions. Following its selected programs to increase public access to federal government agencies the NPR worked with changing the way government works with business. The issue of how regulatory agencies would provide more information technology and work to do a better job measuring what matters resulted in the regulated federal agencies developing better information and tools to help with compliance. Finally the NPR developed the initiative for people, businesses, governments and federal agencies to have access to government through technology. The NPR worked to help create FirstGov.gov- a one stop website for government information, transaction, program results, and e-mail feedback to public officials-with connections to 27 million web pages. Through the idea of bringing government to the constituents and communities via technology the NPR created more than a dozen Internet gateway websites to serve special populations. In addition to creating kiosks offering touch screens for one-stop services in 36 communities traditionally under-served by the Internet. Thus the first stage of this E-Government reality started taking shape nearly a decade ago and the follow-on polices and programs has made if an even bigger gold charm for candidates to endorse and place on their campaign agenda.
