Censorship and the Internet

The internet is the largest source of information available. On the internet you can find out what birds are extinct, where to get a tattoo, which religion is right for you and if the latest album by your favorite artist is worth buying. You can also see graphic images of lesbian sex, photographs of bloody tragic deaths, plans on how to build bombs, and learn how to lure little boys into your car so you can make love to them. Should all of this info be readily available to everybody that has internet access? Should little children have the right to surf the internet in safety without coming across pictures of male sexual organs and adult sex toys? In this essay I will introduce internet censorship. I will then list the pros and cons of censoring the internet and the groups behind those views. Finally I will provide my opinion followed by a closing statement.
             .
To censor is defined in the dictionary as, "to examine in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectionable."" Censoring the internet would be to remove content which could be considered objectionable. Who would be the judge of this content? The government? The public? With the large amount of material on the internet how would the government maintain rule over the content? The first Amendment of the Constitution is written:.
             .
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."".
Does this Amendment protect the internet? Does the freedom of speech give us the right to post info on how to make bombs which in end could be used to kill innocent humans? Does the freedom of speech give us the right to add pornographic websites to a search engine for the general public? The previous complications are a few of the topics I will cover throughout the remainder of this essay.
