Journey of an Egg

The vagina is a muscular tube that receives the sperm. At one end of the vagina, there is an opening to the outside of the body. At the other end, there is a part of the uterus called the cervix. The cervix is the base of the uterus, which bulges down into the vagina. It has a small opening through which sperm can enter the uterus.
In every woman, there are two ovaries located in the lower part of the abdomen, one on each side. The ovaries have two major functions. The first function of the ovaries is to produce the eggs. Ovaries usually produce only one mature egg at time. The second major function of the ovaries is to produce sex hormones. After puberty, hormones cause one of the eggs to complete the process of maturing about once a month. The release of an egg from an ovary is called ovulation. After ovulation, the egg is ready to be fertilized by a sperm from the man. .
Even though an ovary releases an egg, the egg and sperm do not join in the ovary. They join together in one of the Fallopian tubes. When an egg has matured, fluid sweeps it from the ovary into one of the Fallopian tubes. These tubes provide a way for an egg to travel from the ovary to the uterus. The uterus is a hollow, muscular organ that provides a place for the baby to grow before birth; it is also called the womb. Usually, after nine months of labor, the baby is finally born!.
