Metamorphosis

During this chapter, we first find out that the main character, Gregor Samsa, has turned into an enormous vermin. This is also known as a big, giant bug. Gregor's initial reaction is not to get upset, or start to freak out, but to worry about getting out of bed and going to work, which he cannot miss. We find out that Gregor lives with his family consisted of his mother, father and sister, all ages unknown like Gregors. When he realizes that he cannot get out of bed because he is lying on his back and it is now a hard shell, he works at it until he finally pushes himself onto the floor with a loud boom. The author explains that he only has one frame in his room consisting of a woman that was cut out of a magazine. When he finally wants to talk to his family and tell them why he cannot make it out of the house on time, he realizes that he is not speaking English, but a strange language that might be called "buggish". We find out that the reason his family is so worried about him not going to work is because Gregor is the only one that works in the house. He supports his whole family and needs to pay off old debts from his parents. When his office manager comes into the house to find out where Gregor is, he threatens him by saying that he is going to fire him for not being at work. This upsets Gregor so he decides to try to open the door of his room, by unlocking it with his teeth. When the manager and his family see him they all begin to freak out. His mother faints, and the manager "runs" away, while his father tries to swat him away with a club. The shove him back into his room and don't allow him to come out. When his father shoves him into his room, the door, which is now to narrow for the new looking Gregor, cuts him up. He then lays in his room until the morning, all alone.
When I think of how Gregor reacted to the new and improved him, I think to myself how I would have reacted. Instead of being all scared and freaked out about his appearance, Gregor just seems to deal with it.
