Amy tan


            Amy Tan was born in Oakland, California. Her family lived in several communities in Northern California before settling in Santa Clara. Both of her parents were Chinese immigrants. .
             In The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan tells the stories of three Chinese-American women and their daughters. The Joy Luck Club has four parts, each made of four chapters. The first and the last parts present the four mothers while and the second and third present their daughters' points of view. This book has eight different voices, these women of the Joy Luck Club, give the stories of their lives. All narrators focus on significant events, those stories in the Joy Luck Club are not just happy stories. Every story in the Joy Luck Club has its own mean to give the narrators some courage or sacrifice but in the end those narrators lose or found themselves or something else. This novel present and show how great and brave the Chinese-American mothers are. They left their own house to come to a new counter and build their new family. They have to adapt a culture and work very hard to overcome all the problems between mother and daughter and wife and husband. .
             In the Joy Luck Club the relationship between mothers and daughters is show up at all stories. For the daughters, born and live in America, have to face a lot of problems that is come from Chinese superstitions and Chinese culture. It is bring embarrass and annoy for them to overcome. For the mothers, a struggle to understand a little better in foreign culture then help their daughters to adapt it easer.
             The Joy Luck Club is present the strong relationship between mother and daughter in a Chinese American society. The book illustrates the hardships both the mother and daughters go through some even and how much they love each other. This novel shows the troubles the daughters face when growing up in two cultures. This book also shows that most of the time mothers really do know best.
