Foreign Aid, Who Benefits?

What is foreign aid? By definition, according to Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, foreign aid is assistance provided by one nation to another. Who benefits from foreign aid? Now this is a very hard question to tackle, we all know who receives the money benefits but does the lender benefit, most of the time not, unless the lending nation is using the aid as a bargaining tool. Some may say that instead of spending tax payers money abroad on foreign aid, money should first be spent on domestic problems that may arise or exist. Those who would argue in favor of foreign aid say that it is an investment for the future of both countries that will eventually pay off. I would disagree.
Congress has given a final approval of $87.5 billion package for U.S. military operations and aid in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere; the new bill includes $64.7 billion for U.S. military operations. The money includes everything from salaries owed to reservists called to active duty, needed aircraft parts, missiles and the new body armor needed for ground troops. President Bush also proposed for an $18.6 billion - $1.7 billion package to help fix Iraq's economy and government. This includes funds for clinics, power and water supplies and training of police officers. The Senate announced that this aid is a grant and will not have to be paid back. Who really benefits from this bill, it's not the citizens of the United States or the soldiers making the ultimate sacrifice. So I ask you who the beneficiary is. I will agree on this, the only thing that we would gain from helping out Iraq is maybe 0.40 - 0.60 cents deduction off of our gas prices. Now I ask you, is this a worthy cause for our troops to die for? I understand freeing the Iraq people of their dictator but why stay for a long period of time when the job is already done. How long will the USA tolerate the innocent killings of civilians and soldiers from suicide bombings and ambushes from Extremist Islamic Radical Groups?.
