Who Would Want a Wife and Not a Slave?

             pleasantly, and then do the cleaning up while I do my studying. (Brady, ).
             The requirements for a wife that are listed above are very similar to what a slave is required to do for their masters. How could a wife stay home and do nothing but make sure everything is in place within the house? Where does a husband find "a wife who would keep [the] clothes clean, ironed, mended, replaced when need be, and who would see to it that [his] personal things are kept in their proper place so that [he] can find what [he] need the minute [he] needs it?"( ) Would this wife be a slave or a loved one that the husband sworn to protect and love? Brady describes in detail what the wife does for the husband, but notice how she never describes what the husband does for the wife.
             While the women are trying their best to satisfy the men, the men still treat them as slaves in a market. It is the men's decision to see if his wife fits the characteristics he requires. .
             Brady starts off her essay explaining how a male friend of hers "had one childwith his ex-wife" ( ) and is currently looking for another one to take his ex-wife's role at home. If the owner does not like the slave or the slave does not meet his/her requirements, the owner has a right to change his slave or wife. And if the wife that he married doesnt satisfied him, he'll leave .
