The Second Amendment:

The regulations and provisions that were set forth in the document were a guarantee that no such thing would ever be allowed ever again. It is also important to be mindful of the founders" intent that the Constitution be a "living" one, adapting to the times ahead. .
             Yet times have changed and the United States of America is no longer the fledgling country on wobbly legs setting out on its journey through history. However the wording of the Second Amendment remains unchanged and the founding father's intent seems to have been skewed and changed with time by the proponents of gun ownership. This has been the cause for much debate over the most recent decades and is often separated in two parts, one discussing the wording and content of the amendment as a whole and the other arguing what arms are to be allowed under the provision of the amendment. Yet there is also another factor that has given cause for debate and that is the increasing amount of violent crimes that are committed with guns. At the top of that list, judging by the media coverage, are the recent numbers of school shootings that have taken place during the last decade. This problem cuts into the very soul of the citizens of the United States .
             If one was to first look at the wording of the Second Amendment it first sets as a requirement that the state provide an independent militia in order to ensure its freedom and that it is regulated by the state itself. On this issue there is not really much to argue about since it plainly states that a militia is to be provided and regulated by the state. Yet, most pro-gun individuals and organizations tend to somehow overlook this particular fact and go directly towards the end of the amendment where it states that " the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed". The interesting thing is that the states do provide a well regulated militia in the form of the National Guard, which stands under direct supervision of the governor of a particular state.
