Thomas More Assignment

) More demonstrated individualism by how he treated his second wife. He was a widower and the general (stereotypical) view was that he only took in another wife as a housekeeper or a baby-sitter for his children. More did not do this. His wife was very young and beautiful. She entertained him when he was in prison, More enjoyed spending time with her, and she had encouraged More in what he was doing. More was being an individual by the way he went against traditional views and treating his second wife the way he wanted to treat her. He treated her as a companion. He was unique because it was very rare to find a man at that time that did not use a second wife as a housekeeper. .
2.) More had illustrated individualism by living by his Utopian ideals. He had written a book called Utopia. In Utopia More goes through provoking questions about the occupation of a wise councillor. He wrote his own original work and he had lived by his ideals that were found in his book. More was living by his own beliefs and ideas. That is individualism because it is one great, unique quality he had. He is not following and obeying the general beliefs that everyone believed in at that time. He is expressing the beliefs that come before him by writing his book.
3.) More had defended the rights of the House of Commons. He had defended their rights to speak freely. More was technically the "servant" of his king, but he had openly defended the rights to speak for the House. Speaking for yourself alone is an individualistic quality since you don't care what others think of you and all you want is to express your opinions. Speaking for others in what your believe in would be related to speaking for yourself because you are express your opinions on their rights. The king might not have been very happy with it, but More still did it because he believed in it. If you believe in something and express it, then you are being unique.
