Reflection of a Song

Song of Solomon has been a most interesting book. There were some really twisted stories going on in there. I didn't really feel the book was powerful or really spoke much to me in any sense. The story was really interesting and following the life of Milkman was fun to read about however I did not feel much of a message that spoke out to me from the book other than just whatever was written on the pages. I did not really discover any hidden meaning that maybe others did. .
I guess I have made a connection with the story by sort of finding a connection with Milkman and myself. Milkman seems to not care much about his life for the longest time. He just partied and bullshitted everyday. He had no real purpose and was just living off his father. Eventually when he set out on his own, he discovers his family history, which drastically changes his life. .
I feel kind of related to Milkman because for a while my mentality about life was similar to his. Living for the next party and just for fun. That was during my sophomore years of high school. However, overtime I slowly come to realize that the path I was taking was very self destructive and I really changed my life around. .
Hager was one messed up girl. I agree with what most people said in class. She needs a community to raise her. She is a really needy person and she feels a big void in her life. Someone she chose Milkman as the filling to her void and when she was rejected she was a woman scorn. I forgot, but there is some saying about women being scorn and it's not good. It's sad how Milkman treated her. I feel if Milkman had come back from his trip earlier and was able to talk to Hager as the "new" Milkman she would probably not have killed herself. The old Milkman left her scarred and she just could not handle it. New Milkman after his trip is a much better person and would have handle the situation much better than a note basically thinking her for some good times.
