"Why, oh why?"

Aoifa was everything I had ever hoped to aspire to; beautiful, smart, and popular. She had just passed her "A" Levels with and "A" and two "B's, and was due to leave for University. Even as I write this, memories of that heart shattering day in September 1998 come flooding back to me. "Why God", I remember asking myself, "Why did it have to happen to a family so normal, so like my own?" Even as I asked the question, I knew there was little hope of an answer, and nothing, no nothing, could ever change the events of that day, which changed the lives of so many people.
Aoifa was, at seventeen, the eldest in a loving close knit family, of five children. She was cherished and cared for by so many individuals. Her smile was electric, and made people who received it feel very special. Despite her profound physical beauty, it is her inner beauty that I will always remember so fondly. Aoifa had a way about her, that when she asked how you were, you knew she really cared and was genuinely concerned. .
Aoifa was an adroit and felicitous being, who was loved by all, and this made what happened come as such a shock to everyone and made it so hard to comprehend. .
On the twenty-first of September 1998 - Aoifa took her own life. For what reason we will never know. But what we do know is that, in Aoifa's short time with us, she left such an imprint in our lives that we will never forget her. What makes this even more devastating, if that is possible, is the fact that immediately after "attempting" suicide, the majority of people want to live - not die, which makes it even more mournful for Aoifa, who succeeded.
It is almost impossible to describe what her family went through. It was as if a great chunk of their lives had just been taken away from them, without any prior warning. Her family initially inflicted the blame upon themselves - what could they have done to change what had happened? Aoifa's family experienced emotions so extreme that they are hard to even start to comprehend.
