The Patriot

The Patriot is a movie that was made a few years ago staring Mel Gibson as Benjamin Martin. Benjamin Martin believed in patriotism but his older son Gabriel disobeys him and joins the Continental Army. Gabriel's foolish actions cause his brother Thomas to die when Gabriel was charged for being a spy. Due to his second oldest child dying Benjamin joins the Army. Using his well thought out tactics he saves 18 of his men and kills 20 at once. Benjamin joins with the army and they fight a bloody battle, which becomes the turning point in the war. Due to glorious win in the previous battle the Americans defeat Cornwallis and defeat the British. As soon as they return their homes they find them burned down. The movie ends showing them rebuilding Benjamin's House.
             I learned that .
The British would burn down homes for no reason if they did or did not find what they were looking for.
Many British Officers were strict and killed people for no reason.
Sometimes they would trap people and burn them inside their own homes or churches.
Slaves could be freed if they fought a year as well as paid five shillings a month.
Most of the American Army was farmers and store keepers who were un experienced.
Some of the Americans would even go so far to keep suicide when they saw their family's dead.
The battles won by the British generals would end in a profit of 100 acres of land.
British soldiers would often steal if they were not fed too much.
The colonists were not well at direct attack but when they hid in the bushes shooting the British there was nothing stopping them.
Many slaves joined the army for their freedom as well as to escape their brutal masters.
My favorite part was the scene when Benjamin kills 20 men due to his frustration when they killed his son. Benjamin killed all the soldiers as well as save his oldest son from being hanged. However it gets a bit gruesome and he takes out all his frustration by constantly attacking an already dead British officer.
