Rivalry

We have all heard of the biblical confrontation of David and Goliath and how the underdog prevailed. This is a modern telling of same story, a story of two individuals in the highly competitive sport of drag racing, each representing the opposite ends of the professional spectrum. The well financed elder champion and the young racer, both fighting for the top spot in the class for different reasons. One has to keep his sponsors happy and the other, for the respect the position brings. At the end of the season, the novice racer overcomes diversity to threaten the veteran's championship reign. .
David Chancy is the typical weekend racer, financially strapped of course, but with enough mechanical knowledge to piece together a competitive car. The 488 cubic inch (c.i.) powered, 1968 Chevy Camaro he races is made up of parts found at swap meets and salvage yards. He has a full time job diving truck for a local parcel delivery company and, if there is any money left on payday, is able to compete at the neighboring drag strips. Though only racing for the last couple of seasons, his early and midseason success has been uncommonly good this year and has put him in second place in the standings for his division. That status earned David the right to compete at the season ending finals at Pomona California where he would likely be matched up against the old pro "Goliath".
Sam "Goliath" Goodman has been participating in drag racing events since the sports conception shortly after the end of WWII. He's done it all from bracket racing to piloting a Top Fuel dragster but the Pro Mod class has been where he has found his greatest success. His high dollar, 568 c.i., 2003 Chevy Cavalier is engineered and maintained by the top mechanics in the nation. He has been one of the top ranked competitors in his class for the last twenty years and his success has drawn automotive performance companies to his team with large financial offers each vying for main sponsorship.
