Julius Caesar

Compare and contrast Brutus and Antony as evidenced through their funeral speeches. Quote lines from the speeches to support your opinions. .
Brutus? speech was short, but in those few moments he explains why he went against Caesar. He says that he's an honorable man and that he will let the truth speak for itself. He says that they can't find anyone who loved Caesar and much as he did and I think he got the audience's sympathy. He said that he killed Caesar for his ambition. Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.? page 117; 23-24 He had killed Caesar for Rome and he asked what they would rather do to be slaves under Caesar's rule or to be free with him dead. I thought that quote caught the audience's attention. His speech made them realize that they are free and they have no cause of complaints. .
On the other hand, Mark Antony's speech was longer. Basically, his speech was saying the good things about Caesar, but like he said he wasn't praising him. He says that anyone who was ambitious would never have cried with the poor people or refuses the kingship he was offered by Antony. Everyone sees Antony as a future Caesar, but the whole point of killing Caesar was so they wouldn't have a king. .
I think that Brutus? speech is more open-ended because he leaves people thinking about his rhetorical questions. Antony seems like a more emotional and kinder speaker. He made examples throughout his speech because he backed up his statements like when he said that a person wasn't ambitious when he cries with the poor. I thought both of their writing styles were different, but, still, both caught my attention and made me think as if I was actually listening to them. .
