The truth is that Zizi is a man who is used to having someone take care of him all of his life. From his mother when he was a kid just as his wife did when he was a man.He used to walk home after a day like that, and Samira would be there. She would unlace his shoes for him; she would pour his coffee there was always coffee on. Then she would sit with him at the kitchen table? (66).
Jameel (Jimmy), his son, on the other hand was a boy who knew how to watch someone and learn how to do it.sit down papa. He takes Zizi suite coat off. I?ll put this over the kitchen radiator? (78) As you can tell he has learned how to take care of his dad the way his mother used to.
As you begin to look at the two stories you can tell how Dee and Jimmy are alike in a lot of ways. They are both two independent people, even though Jimmy is a little boy.
As you can see Jimmy speaks good English and picks up on skills easily. Some day the boy will own his own business and sell all the food in wax paper? (79) The story is called Monkey Business, I believe this is because of how Jimmy can pick up on things and his father cannot. Just like monkey see monkey do.
Dee is a very educated lady. She has gone to school all of her life and has even left her home and gone to college. She is on a search to find what the world has to offer and to find her identity. She sees things in the world that she wants and goes after them. You can tell that she is looking for her identity by the way she has changed her name. When Dee comes home she is with a man who her mother seems to think is her husband. He and she both share Muslim names. This was one of her ways of trying to find out who she was. When she came home it was because she wanted to get things to put in her house to show where she had come from. Other than that she never wanted to come back that house. The biggest difference between Dee and Jimmy was that Jimmy was willing to stay at home and help take care of his father.
