Age of Anxiety?

All other inconclusive questions were interesting and thought provoking, but if they did not lead to a concrete result, they were not going to be part of the new philosophy. A great example of this revolution were the studies of Ludwig Wittgenstein. He noted that philosophy can only speak about things that actually "are" and offered the world the great advice, "About those things of which we know not, we should remain silent.", which most people tend to ignore. Another important figure in his time was Friedrich Nietzsche who helped pave the way to the idea of Existentialism, a way of coping with uncertainty. Nietzsche proposed that the world is without purpose and cannot be comprehended. He also challenged the way of Christianity by proclaiming, "God is Dead!". By this, he meant that humans have killed God by trivialized his concerns when asking for unimportant material items as if he were a genie. Even though I haven't yet decided my opinion on the existence of God as Christians have explained him, I do believe that they have taken a good idea and built a belief structure out of it that has lead to death and worse. Beliefs are very dangerous and aren't as pure as ideas. In a world that is always changing and evolving, it is essential that we know the difference between ideas and beliefs. Beliefs are harder to change than ideas, especially when dealing with large groups of people.
Existentialism accepts uncertainty and the anxiety that it causes as part of our existence. Albert Camus, a Frenchman existentialist writer who furthered the thoughts of Nietzsche, noticed the absurdity of man striving for order and coherence in a world that was so consistently in a state of disorder and incoherence. He cleverly stated that the world is without meaning, and that man is the one thing in it that has meaning because he/ she insists on having one. Before Existentialism, Soren Kierkegaard surfaced the validity of absurdity by explaining the acceptance of Christianity as a "Leap of Faith".
