equality

In today's society many people say that they have not been treated fairly. We see this on the news and read about the mistreatment of many Americans in the newspaper. Getting an equal chance in the world is a basic American right. We as American citizens are taught by the Declaration of Independence that "All men are created equal." Through this idea, we can infer that we each have an equal opportunity to live "The American Dream" by acquiring wealth, power by getting a good job, and working hard. Many Americans say this dream is a myth. The majority of America's wealth is held by an elite upper class like actors, athletes, entertainers and business owners who exploit their workers and control the government to protect and acquire more money for themselves. Because the elite is so unwilling to share its wealth. For many Americans it is unrealistic to have dreams of gaining large amounts of money or power unless some radical changes occurs, many of which are ironically considered to be anti-American. The American dream is something that many strive for no matter what age, race, or religion. If someone is an American citizen then they likely carry a piece of the American dream with them, whether their dream is to get an education, a better job, a house or car. Everyone deserves a fair chance to accomplish their goals. .
When discussing the huge differences between the wealthy and the rest of the population, Marian Irish, author of The Politics of American Democracy, states that "American federalism has had decisive and superlative tendencies"(144). Which is very true in our society because individual goals are stressed instead of actions that would most benefit others. Consequently, those who are able to acquire large amounts of success through the business world would be extremely motivated to remain successful goals. It is also in the best interest for them and their family to keep obtaining new wealth for future generations.
