Life During The Depression

Life during the depression was very difficult, the hard economic time the United States was going through, due to unfortunate events like the New York stock market crash, made many people lose their jobs and gravely reduced the family income, making them have to cut many luxuries and reduce their expenses to their necessities. As this factor rapidly grew, it made families all over America go into great need. A large percentage of the population was unemployed and this caused a great poverty amongst the people. Many other factors also caused a greater division between economical classes, the richer where getting richer and the poorer where getting poorer, or at least weren't getting any richer. This strange economical phenomenon created great poverty, need for jobs and depression in the American people.
As the economical depression increased, hundreds of companies around America had to cut back on employees, causing a great unemployment and reducing the family income which made many families reduce many expenses, on certain luxuries, this reduction caused many people also to loose their jobs or to have a smaller income. For example, Carmen Carter and her husband Orlo where turkey farmers, they bought turkeys on credit and sold them on thanks giving, then paid their debt. But as the depression comes she says:But that year was different. The newspapers were full of news about bank closing, businesses failing, and people out of work. There was just no money and we could not sell the turkeys. So we were in debt with no way out.? Many people like Carmen, as the depression fell, where left in debt and empty handed. In many cases this meant giving everything people had in life and having to go beg to the streets, and living on the charity of people.
As the people started to get fired, jobs became harder to get, even the simplest and worst paying jobs became crucial for a family to survive.
