THE WAY SOME SHOW LOVE

My mother showed me physically -not by hitting me- by buying me clothes. I've never known her to come to me and tell me; however, I can remember many countless hours spending time in the mall. That was our time together time for just her and me. I tried my best to understand. As a child, she too was punished. No, I put that the wrong way. As a child she was abused.
"Girl what is own yo mind? You been looking like you lost yo puppy all day today."" Erika stated laughing as if there were no tomorrow. "Nothing just got a lot to think about,"" I mumbled. That day was like a blur to me except for the conversation that Erika and I had. It was time to go home a place where love was confused by money. "The more money my mom spent the more she loved me."" I use to tell myself this to make me feel better. "I'm home!- I shouted as I entered my house locking the door behind me. I didn't know what to expect when I heard my mom's voice, "Come here Margie I need to have a word with you."" I didn't know what to expect. I dropped my book bag and headed upstairs to her room. I opened the door; my mom was sitting there in the dark next to her window. "Turn on the lights- she whisper. I then followed her instruction and boy was shocked.
She was crying I ran to be by her side and she told me about her childhood and how she grew up poor. She told me how she worked long hours just so that we would have more than she did. She told me how her mom abused her "which I already knew about my sister already filled me in but I acted surprise "and how she vowed never to abuse her kids. This reminds me of "The Broken Chain- about when the father vowed never to abuse his kids like his father did him, how he was going to break the chain, which in the end showed him that he couldn't. My mom told me about how when her mom did give her nice stuff, she thought her mother didn't want her to be happy.
