             Courtship in Germany is much like any other country in where a woman and a man have interest in each other in which they pursue their feelings by getting to know each other by dating. When going on a date the gender roles remain basically the same as the United States, in which the male usually pays for the expenses unless the female desires to pay. Germans usually find paying the bill a privilege and usually fights over who will pay the bill when going out with friends and family members. Germans also would rather have respect and truth rather than the American way of stretching the truth by complimenting. So, if going on a date and the woman ask "how do I look" the German male will be honest with his opinion and respect the ladies appearance either positively or negatively. Also it is important not to do small talk when on a date but rather have deep conversations on issues like politics, current events, or philosophy (Dating Etiquette in Germany). .
             The German wedding tradition definitely has its rituals and culture tied into the wedding by incorporating it into a three-day ceremony. On the first day the couple is married in a civil wedding where only the family and close friends attend. The second day is a very informal party in which plates are being smashed and the broken pieces are thought of as good luck because it symbolizes that nothing else will be broken in the marriage/household again, this tradition is called Poltrabend. Then on the third day the religious ceremony and reception occurs in which during the ceremony the couple is on their knees and if the groom kneels on the brides dress he is showing he will be wearing the pants but when they later stand and the wife steps on his foot that means she feels differently in who will be wearing the pants.
