On this day 70,000 lives ended in a flash. The American people were tired of the long and brutal war. The atomic bomb was necessary to end the war. Truman also wanted to used the bomb to end the war quickly without the loss of many American lives. Many people did die from the bomb but the number of people who didn't is greater. If Truman was to go on with the war with Japan the number of Americans dead would have been doubled. So the president decided to spare the lives of many Americans by using the bomb at the cost of the enemy's civilians. Some of the American people were upset with the idea of the atomic bomb, because they felt that yes it will end the war but later there will be consequences. The dropping of the atomic bomb ended World War II.
