Disorder

Law prevents lawyers from using the victim's clothes and outside information as evidence. The fact is that no one who is walking on the street, regardless of attire or appearance is asking to assaulted or raped. Yet, the truth is that just about anyone can be sexually assaulted. Studies have shown that victims can be anyone from infants to people in their 80's; people of color, lesbians, gays, people with disabilities, and persons from every racial, ethnic, religious, economic and social background. No one is excluded from being a victim when perpetrator is on the loose. According to the National Victims Center, a sexual assault occurs in this country once every six minutes. It is approximated that one out of three women and one out ten men will be the victim of sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. Only one out of ten assaults is ever reported to law enforcement. .
A person's behavior is not a justification or excuse to the crime. People have an absolute right to be safe from sexual violations at any time, place and under any circumstances. Victim's who have been raped often have their identities and personal unique qualities looked over, while being referred to instead in negative ways by society. The victim is seen as his or her own problem or reason for the assault, instead of a rape survivor. This affects the victim's self-esteem and has makes it very difficult for them to move on in life. .
Often, the victim feels guilty about being raped and feels responsible for the assault. The victim feels humiliated and embarrassed when talking to family, friends, court system, and from society. While talking to family and friends, they sometimes are also not as supportive and place the blame on the victim. The victim is faced with a variety of stress if they choose to persecute their offender. When a victim goes into the hospital for treatment, they are confronted with questions from police and doctors.
