Irish Republican Army

I have chosen to write about the Irish Republican Army, because I find it very interesting but at the same time very horrifying. I want to investigate there way to fight for freedom, and their latest actions.
             Northern Ireland:.
Northern Ireland is a part of United Kingdom. Its surface area is Northern Ireland 13.483 km2 and its population is 1.589.000 (1990). It has nine districts that form Ulster province. The population of Republic of Ireland is 3.503.000. Most of its population lives in the eastern provinces, only 490.000 people live near Belfast and in Belfast. .
             What is the IRA?.
IRA stands for Irish Republican Army. IRA is the most dangerous terrorist organisations in Europe, they are fighting for political reasons. Not only do they want independence from Britain but they also wants to replace the government of Northern Ireland with a socialist government and also to totally get rid of the Protestants of the six counties of Ulster, just as it happened in Southern Ireland. 100 years ago Protestants and Jews together made up over 26% of the population in Southern Ireland, to day they number less than 2%.
For many years the IRA has been killing police officers and soldiers but mostly civilians, by bombing cities and towns. The terrorists get their income from Drug trafficking robbery. Although IRA's campaigns of violence, against the democratic parties of Ireland, and Northern Ireland have been going on since 1970's, they still exist today.
The targets of IRA are most unarmed civilians. Eight workers were killed by IRA militants, on their way to home from work, is an example of their targets (17 January 1992). IRA's bomb attack in Warrington, which cost the lives of two children, Timothy Parry (2 years old) and Jonathan Ball (3 years old) is another example. With these brutal events IRA tries to put pressure on the British government, and to attract public attention. IRA's irresponsible actions in Europe cost many innocent people lives, one of them was a waiter's German wife, two Australian tourists and two-month daughter of another waiter.
