College Stress

Jack's heart pounds as he cast panicky looks around the classroom. He doesn't recognize the professor, he doesn't know any of the students" and he can't even figure out what the subject is. In front of him is a text. At the last minute his roommate awakens him. It's only another anxiety dream. The very fact that dreams like Jack's are common suggest that college is stressful situation for young people. The cause of this stress can be academic, financial, and personal.
Academic stress is common among college students. For many students, going to college is more than just attending classes and taking notes. Sometimes, students have a difficult time understanding college school guidelines. Moreover, many students find it tough to decide on what classes to take that are related to their major. Also, choosing the right courses and schedule can be a headache. Furthermore, being on time for classes, and taking mid-term and final exams are considered stressful. Since many students are on some sort of financial or scholarship program, maintaining their GPA in order to stay in school, passing classes, and getting good grades are essential in college. Before long, the stress of everyday life in college shows itself in many different ways, such as the expectations of making an "A" in every course, the fear of doing poorly on tests, and worrying about failing a course. However, as stress becomes more serious among students, they often begin to develop certain anxiety symptoms, including stomach aches, dizziness, forgetfulness, and the inability to make certain decisions.
In addition to academic stress, students often feel financial pressure. Plus, most college students work part-time while attending college and they have more responsibilities than just maintaining good grades. Moreover, students feel frustrated that they have to pay for their own textbooks and other materials that are required for their classes.
