poverty

What is poverty? Is it merely a state of being without money or is it a reference to a lifestyle? Can you have money and still be living in poverty?.
In the dictionary it describes poverty as a state or condition of being poor, having a lack of something necessary. The percentage of American families living in poverty is outrageous and is growing each day. I believe this growth is unnecessary and can be controlled. If the average family would ignore their desires for material possessions and focus more on their needs instead of their wants, I believe that nine out of every ten families that suffer needlessly would find themselves in a better financial situation.
The need for an education is also critical in today's economy without a collage education a family will suffer. I believe that the average person could survive on a full time salary of ten or eleven dollars an hour, but if that person desires to have a family that kind of money is insufficient. Very rarely do uneducated citizens make it in today's world. About one in every thousand high school dropouts will find a good high paying job that will get them by in life. The majority are stuck at fast food restaurants flipping burgers. This in my opinion is not the way to go or even consider. Unless my parents happened to be multimillionaires that had set me up for life.
Poverty is not a uncontrollably disease, it is not wild fire. It can be controlled, the decisions children make now as youth will effect their whole youth and could be the difference between living in poverty and living in comfort. Poverty can be controlled.
