What is political Science?

The world of politics is a complex one and it can not be rearranged or drastically changed all at once without serious repercussions on a government. It is important to know both the consequences and sources of things like political stability, revolution, liberty, oppression, equality, inequality, democracy, and dictatorship; the need to understand what these things do and how they are achieved has been called the motivation for political scientists. .
One of the most difficult tasks of a political scientist is trying to figure out what to study and how to study it and the methods of studying politics have not remained constant. When it comes to looking at occurrences in a political system it is not as important to study an occurrence as it is to study a reoccurrence. When something happens for a second time you know that it happens for a reason and you must investigate what that reason was to prevent or predict such events in the future. Political science is different from other sciences such as chemistry and physics in the way that it does not have any specific established laws. Many attempts have been made to establish some general laws of politics but few have been discovered. It is such a difficult task because politics has a lot to do with human nature and behavior which in itself is very hard to predict. Politics being the complex and variable art that it is, is being driven by unpredictable human actions, because of this it is hard to formulate and implement laws on it. Political science prior to the 20th century was largely dominated by philosophy, history and law which we now call the traditional approaches to political science. Political scientists would study the works of great political philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle, and Machiavelli and try to make new interpretations. However the answers they came up with were usually oversimplified and relied on a variety of assumptions.
