civil war

The Civil War is sometimes called the War Between the States, the War of Rebellion or the War for Southern Independence. It began on April 12 1861 and lasted until May 26 1865. The Civil War was a military conflict between the United States of America, the Union and the Confederate States of America, the Confederacy. This war had brought freedom to 4 million black slaves. The main debate between the North and the South on the eve of the war was whether slavery should be permitted in the Western territories. The period from 1820-1860 is known as a divisive, tensed era in American History. Some events have been significant in causing the War Between the States are.
             1. Election of Lincoln.
             2. Kansas Nebraska Act.
             3. Formation of Republican Party.
             4. Dred Scott Decision.
             5. Secession of South Carolina.
The Election of Lincoln I think was the most significant; I ranked that event as number one. The reason for this is that when Lincoln was elected president the South had viewed that as a threat to slavery, which ignited the war. When Abraham Lincoln was elected president the southern states reacted by seceding from the union which plunged the country into the civil war. Lincoln had much to do with the events that where next to come and he also had some input on each one also.
The event I have ranked second would be the Secession of South Carolina. I ranked that one fifth. Seven states of the lower South had formed themselves into the Confederate States of America. The reason why the South had removed itself was that Lincoln won the election and became president. The South had realized that they would never be able to again control the federal government, so they parted. They had also guaranteed slavery in those states. Once the South had opened fire in Fort Sumter the civil war had begun.
The event I have ranked third would be the Kansas Nebraska Act. This act had caused tension between the North and the South before the Civil War.
