Job Stress


            
             The word "stress- is used everyday to describe how exhausted we are. The word "stress- is so overly used that its impact is ignored. Although the term has become extremely common, its effect continues to negatively influence many live in the workforce. Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary defines stress as "the result produced when a structure, system or organism is acted upon by forces that disrupt equilibrium or produce strain-. The combination of high demands in a job and a low amount of control over the situation can lead to stress (OHA Answers: Workplace Stress - general). In the last decade the stress in the work place has increased considerably (Schnall, Peter 1998). One of the reasons that this has happened is because employers are demanding employees to work longer hours with higher workloads. There is research that directly link physical and emotional illnesses to job stress (Prevention 1999). This high demand is a contributing factor that affects the employees to the point of quitting their jobs or taking drastic actions. .
             This research paper will argue that there is a direct correlation between workplace stress and the physical and emotional health of the employee. The researcher will discuss how the decline in employees' physical and mental health has had a negative impact on their job performance. This research paper will set out to critique current methods that are being utilized. It will show that the increase in the employees' poor health is frequently related to the stress in the workplace. Employees are taking increased medical leaves of absence and sick time due to the negative impact they face at the workplace. This research will show that the government has recognized that people should have the right to take time when they have medical and mental issues and not be penalized. .
