            Robin Lee Graham sailed around the word alone. He began his adventure on July 27, 1965, as a boy at the age of 16, and returned as a young man at the age of 18. The National Geographic magazine commissioned him to keep a record (pictures and journal) of his trip. He encountered many adventures and peoples during his travel. Some examples are: flying fish, dolphins, Samoan and Indian people. Robin's trip began at Los Angeles, California and went from Hawaii to the Fiji Islands, Australia, the Cocos Islands, The Cape of Good Hope, the Ascension Islands, Surinam, The Panama Canal and back to Los Angeles. Most of the time he was in radio contact with someone and was monitored. However, he encountered a storm with a huge water spout, a hurricane and a great storm in which many thought he didn't survive. He described the water spout as being about 2,000 feet high. One time a shark came by his boat and took a huge bite out of a fish he was storing over the side of his boat for a future dinner. Robin was also a talented photographer. He rigged many pictures of himself by pulling a string on the camera he had. he kept a detailed log of his journey. During his travels he meet a young lady, Patty, in Australia and fell in love. She arranged to meet him at various points along his voyage. Robin Lee Grahm had been sailing on his own since he was 10 years old. His love for sailing was nurtured by his father. He was commissioned by the National Geographic Society to record his journey. Although he was assisted in writing this book, the log is authentic and inspiring. A motion picture was made about his journey produced by Gregory Peck. .
