Power of Media


            
             Many people are not aware of this fact, but the media plays a highly significant and crucial role in our society. Most of us use it as a source for entertainment, but some of us are unaware of the harm it may impose subconsciously on our lives in society. What is appropriate for adults has a totally different set of meaning for children, who are easily influenced. Generally, it is known that as a child grows, it observes everything around it; whatever it sees, it does. Television violence inspires its viewers, causing children to behave violently. When there is a world that contains kids killing kids, there is a very big problem. Television alone is responsible for 10% of youth violence.
             So much senseless violence has been shown on television, resulting the fact that today's generation of adolescence can watch absolutely the most gruesome, monstrous, unnecessary violent shows, to the point where they are not even shocked by the horrific images. These images also participate in spoiling their morals and values. Violence has been shown so much that the children are not sensitive to it; they do not feel the guilt, the wrong. It is simply part of life. For example, when a school fight begins, it is fed by many youths hungry to taste the "glory" of such violence. Instead of somebody trying to stop the fight, it only grows more powerful and more intimidating. .

             Many studies show that graphic violence is inspiring children so much, to the point that they are checking out library books or are visiting web sites that can help them learn how to operate guns and build homemade bombs. It is basically teaching the children of our society to become criminals. In addition, Statistics show that by the time an American child reaches 18, he/she will have seen 16,000 simulated murders and 200,000 acts of violence. It is also known that video games that contain some sort of violence within them are very popular.
