This scenario that happened in Illinois really changes the way that America thinks about capital punishment. While I definitely agree with what Governor Ryan has done, I still think that capital punishment should be outright abolished. In light of these recent events, one can hope that the public now sees that capital punishment truly is ineffective and no matter what is done, there still will be no definite way of determining who is one hundred percent innocent or guilty. From a more traditionalist standpoint, there are many other reasons besides the fact that innocent people are being put to death, which should shift the public into an oppositionist viewpoint. .

Suppose we apply the same standards to the government that we have for civilians. True, a civilian has the right to shoot at an intruder as he is entering his home. But if the civilian catches the intruder and has him under his control, then shooting the intruder would be considered simple murder. That's what capital punishment is.simple murder. .
The main reason why abolition is always shot down is the argument of deterrence. Many people believe that if capital punishment were abolished, criminals would be "not afraid" to commit murderous crimes, because of lack of repercussion.
