Death Penalty

How would you feel if you we lived by Hammurabi's code and you stole something and lost your hand therefore keeping you from ever doing that again. This is same principle as death penalty but just at a lower level. What if we the states we live in retain the right for the death penalty, where do they go next? To more strict measures on punishment like those enforced in Hammurabi's time. I thought this nation was developing nation striving to be the best in the world, I think we should be above the code of "an eye for an eye." This code I believe is an inhumane and an infantile way to run the justice system. Isn't the point of the penalty system to rehabilitate someone for their actions, but if you just go and kill that person nothing about rehabilitation is be accomplished. I believe they should limit a murderer's abilities while in prison. They should be put to work and live in more strict conditions. Remember the point of the penalty system is to rehabilitate, the .
convict should regret having ever commited the crime. He or she should suffer and have to live with themselves with it on their mind. .
The inhumanity of the death penalty is one of the main reasons I oppose it. It just defies everything our nation stands for. We don't know for sure if the lethal injection creates a painful death for the felon, but the fact that we kill a man for killing another is not right. The person should be punished by other reasons which some I already stated. Imagine you were a felon and you had killed someone, would you rather be put to death or put in prison for the remainder of your life. Of course most will choose to be put to death because they don't want to have to be in prison for the rest of their life.
The reason that influenced me to oppose the death penalty the most was the possibility of innocence with the accused. It was said that almost one hundred who were on death row were later proven innocent.
