Evolutionary Forces Impact on Modern Society.
For one to properly analyze the impact of Evolutionary forces on modern society one must first understand what an evolutionary force is as well as its possible effects on a group or population. Then one is able to determine how these principles will relate to modern society. Evolutionary forces are mechanisms that lead to eventual allele frequency changes. These forces are mutation, natural selection, genetic drift and gene flow. Other factors such as social habits, diet, and religious beliefs also have an impact on evolutionary factors on society. .
Mutation introduces original alleles and leads to new adaptation in a society. Over time mutation can contribute to numerous evolutionary variations.
Natural selection revolves around the premise of fitness, and the prospect of an organism change of survival and reproduction. The fitness can be determined by the presence of certain genotypes and phenotype in future generations. .
Genetic drift occurs when there is fluctuation in gene frequencies from generation to generation. A size of a population has a great effect on genetic drift.
Gene flow is the movement of genes into a new environment or population. This often time can lead to groups having similarities. .
The evolutionary forces gene flow and genetic drift have probably had the greatest impact on modern human beings. Due to the complexity of modern human transportation systems, mankind has become more mobile than any other species in the world. Due to our mobility we now come into contact with people of different races and originate from different regions of the world. The United States, with its numerous ethnic groups represented amongst the population, is a perfect example of the intermixing of different races and cultures. This results in a large breeding population being available. Therefore, there are wide arrays of appearances displayed amongst offspring.
