Fast Food Nation

Fast Food Nation is a very controversial book. Eric Schlosser, the author, dug deep into the heart of our nations biggest fast food corporations. He really made me think about how fast food has affected my life as well as the people around me. .
Consider me guilty of succumbing to fast food because of its convenience. Being a collage student it is very easy for me to walk to Atwood and hit the fast food court for a quick bite to eat. Since there is so much else going on fast food becomes the obvious choice rather than cooking your own food. A student who lives next door to me said that he eats fast food at least three times a week. .
In Atwood there is a wide choice of fast food restaurants that one can pick from. I eat there over three times a week because it is so simple. Walk in, pick out what you want, it is already pre made waiting for someone to snatch it up, grab fries or onion rings and you are on your way. It is a very simple process and has, based on your taste, good food. .
I didn't always have the option of fast food though. Coming from a small town without, until recently, any fast food restaurants, if I wanted fast food I had to drive 15 miles away. Growing up McDonalds was considered a treat. Being a child I didn't think of the inside story behind the big fast food corporations, all the corruption that Shlosser writes about in his book. I never considered how someone's life was changed because of a meat packing plant accident, just so I could get my burger, how runoff from a growing metropolis is ruining grazing land in Colorado, or the poor small time farmers that can't make a living because of the huge potato farming corporations taking their business. .
My town has had a Dairy Queen for as long as I can remember and for a while that was all Royalton had that could be considered fast food. About four years ago it turned into a brazier Dairy Queen, containing all kinds of hot cooked meals.
