Loners in the Novel

The fact that "he wanted to do them by himself" tells us that he was not willing to work with others and wanted to be alone so that he could finish things on his own. Therefore, he avoids the company of others and this proves that he is a loner. Moreover, Hooper did not want the company of Kingshaw and this can be seen through the note that Hooper had written to Kingshaw when Kingshaw first arrived. The note had said "I DONT WANT YOU TO COME HERE" and this shows us his displeasure towards the arrival of Kingshaw and his mother. Since he did not want Kingshaw to come to Warings, this shows us hat he is a loner as he tries to avoid the company of others such as Kingshaw and his mother. Hooper also proves himself to be a loner, as he did not want to mix around with Kingshaw. He sat in his room drawing his battlefield and did not go and look for Kingshaw. This can be proven when he talks back to his father, saying that he was not with Kingshaw because he did not know where Kingshaw was. This shows us that he did not want to be with Kingshaw as he argues with his father for such a little thing as the whereabouts of Kingshaw. This, in turn, shows us that he avoids the company of Kingshaw, which proves him to be a loner. On top of that, he has tried ways to scare Kingshaw away; such as bluffing him that his grandfather "lay and died in that bed" that was now Kingshaw's. He did so just to try to scare Kingshaw away so that he could be alone in Warings again. This then shows us that he avoids the company of others and therefore proves to us that he is a loner.
Hooper also did not want to do anything or go anywhere with Kingshaw. This is evident as he had said " I don't want to do anything or go anywhere with Kingshaw". By saying this, it tells us that he avoids the company of Kingshaw. Hooper did not want the company of Kingshaw because he did not want to do anything or go anywhere with him.
