Little Countries



             Today markets are more open and advances in technology have brought down the cost of bringing information to other areas of the world. The use of electronic communications eliminates the problem of distance cut the cost of communicating with the rest of the world. The Internet has played a major part in the growing prosperity of little countries. Small rich countries have some of the highest ratio of Internet hosts to population. Some of these countries are even using the Internet to make money in illegal ways such as gambling, porn and unregulated financial transactions. .
             The pros and cons of large countries: .
             Most countries with a large number of people have more political power, but are not very prosperous. A large economy deals with problems better than small countries. For example, if Texas goes into a recession, states like New York and California can still prosper, those people who lived in Texas can move to places like New York to find better jobs. "Obviously, large countries have the advantage of a large market, undivided by customs duties and united by a single set of standards and of cultural tastes, allows economies of scale such as large production runs." But this advantage has too decreased as trade restrictions have diminished. Some other obvious advantages of being a large country, is that it has a large number of people who pay taxes and thus contribute to the cost public necessities such as roads and a defense system. However, this too also has a downside. Some people may not want to spend their money on public necessities that they share with people they don't lik!.
             e. Most countries with a large number of people aren't very wealthy. Only two out of ten countries with a population over one million people are thriving. Size plays a major role in how fast countries grow, for example larger countries face administration troubles, because often they are too big to be quick.
