Cyrano de Bergerac



             Le Bret is Cyrano's most trusted, loyal friend. He is a fellow soldier and guardsman. Le Bret worries that the things Cyrano does will ruin his career, but Cyrano ignores his judgment. Le Bret cares for Cyrano and looks out for his best interests. Le Bret is a Flat character because we do not know that much about him. He is also static because he does not change that much in the story.
             Christian is the one that Roxanne "loves" in the beginning of the story. The only reason that Roxane "loves" Christian is because of Cyrano's words. Christian is average in all areas except for his good looks and charm. Christian's needs and desires are simple compared to Cyrano's more complex desires and goals. Christian is Dynamic. In the beginning of the story it seems as if Christian just wants Roxane's love to compete with Cyrano, but at the end of the story it seems as if he really does like Roxane, and he feels sorry for plagiarizing Cyrano's words. Christian is round, because we know a lot about him.
             In the Beginning of the play, De Guiche and Cyrano are enemies. De Guiche is a very violent, vengeful and bitter man. He constantly has plans to have Cyrano killed, and he is unafraid to admit it. De Guiche is a colonel in the army. In the beginning of the play all of his troops do not respect him at all. Later on in the story, his troops do respect him when he helps rescue Roxane from battle. De Guiche is Dynamic. He does become a better person near the end .

             The overall conflict in this story is man vs. himself which is Cyrano vs. himself against Falsehood, Prejudice, Compromise, Cowardice, and Vanity. These are all of Cyrano's enemies, all that Cyrano hates. He never did any of these things in life, except in the very end of the story when he thought that life had no meaning. When he said all of these things in the very end of the story he did not mean them.
