In today's work force, men, on the average, make six-hundred eighteen dollars a week to a woman's four-hundred seventy three dollars. To break it down even more white women make four hundred eighty three dollars per week, black women four hundred forty five, and Hispanic women three hundred eighty five.
(http://www.dol.gov/dol/wb/public/wb_20fact00.htm) This illustrates how women are not treated equally in pay with men and also how your ethnic background as a woman affects your pay. This proves that your pay and opportunities in the work place depend on your sex and race, and this is far from equal. .
One thing that I cannot understand is how people can be so discriminate against a minority. This country has not really been around all that long compared to others and we quickly forgot our roots. At some point in time all of forefathers were immigrants, as a matter of fact, unless you are 100% American Indian, you to have some immigrant in you. The forefathers of the country wanted this to be a land of opportunity for all and but over time that idea has changed to an idea of and of opportunity for some not all. .
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, black households average income was twenty-five thousand and fifty dollars in 1997, white households was thirty-eight thousand nine hundred seventy two dollars, and Hispanic households was twenty-six thousand six hundred eighty two. .
Through this information we learn that the white male holds most high level and high paying jobs. As a trend they will continue to do so until someone steps in and makes some of these good jobs go to others. The government has tried to do this through such programs as affirmative action and establishing quotas in the workplace. Things such as these are raising a very large problem though. Some argue that affirmative action and quotas hold back the majority that may be more deserving of a position. These programs are said to be designed to help everyone but really the majority is being the one discriminated against.
