Although the company has now gone under, it gave my friend a great insight into what it takes to operate and manage a company. .
As for my internship, I chose to do something with teaching. The directors of Social Lab also knew that communications was also something that I might be interested in. So, they stuck me in the T.V. Lab at school. Now, it wasn't necessarily my first choice, but it worked out to be fine because I knew the one lady who worked in the T.V. Lab. Really, the experience had given me the best of both worlds. One, it let's me get an insider's view on what teaching can really be like. Mr. Joyce, the teacher down in the Lab, shows me some of the different aspects to being a teacher. I can see that sometimes he gets frustrated if the kids are acting up, and on the flip side, when class is going well I see how excited he becomes. Secondly, I can see some of the things that go into the communications field because of all the equipment that is housed in T.V. Lab. Although I basically knew how to operate the equipment that is housed in the Lab, we got some new stuff this year. I ha!.
d to teach myself how to use it, and also how to install and work some of the programs that we got for the computers that are used for editing. So really, it was nice that I was placed in such an area. .
Keep in mind that for this internship, I am down at T.V. Lab for a little less than half of my school day. I get all of my classes, such as English and Economics in the morning, and then go to my internship. At my job, I do many things from running errands for Ms. McCarville, who coordinates the media for the whole district, to every now and then, teaching a small group of students how to use some of the equipment. It is really exciting when I get to do that because obviously that is what I want to really do. For instance one day Ms. McCarville was out sick, and I had to teach an entire class how to use the new camcorders that we had bought.
