That pretty much explains it for me, but that's probably not going to get me anything on this essay. Instead, I"m going to point out the pros and cons of why we need or don't need advertising. First off, though it seems like a small, annoying interference at the beginning of a movie to have advertising, over 60% of an average cinema's income is through those ads!!! Wow. Even compared to big movie intakes like lord of the rings, that's a lot. That doesn't mean that the audience gets any of that money though. All it means is that the audience gets blasted with products they have a 21% chance of actually buying and it stalls them from watching the movie they paid for. But enough on that matter. Though hidden "hypnotic" messages that mess with your brain have been banned from TV commercials, they have managed to find a way around that. With repetitive songs and catchy lyrics, advertisers have caught the audience into remembering their products without reprogramming the brain. If I sung "Our new number's really, really nifty- between 80-95% of the average population in NZ would finish that song off without even thinking. It is, of course, the pizza haven ad and most people have heard it so many times, they don't need a phone book to ring them for a pizza. 0-800 30-40-50 pops into mind when they need it. This may seem like brainwashing but it's still completely legal as the message is clearly spoken and everyone understands what the message is. Buy our pizza!!! So far I have pretty much just explained the cons in this argument so I"d better mention some good points. For example, this might be good information if you were a businessperson yourself. Also, over 65% of all NZ's find products they want or need through TV, movies, radio ECT. So in the end, my opinion is that though my essay is full of negative speech and statistics towards advertising, we do in fact need it.
