The Controversy Surrounding Abortion

Different groups have varying opinions about the subject of abortion. People can strongly oppose or devotedly support this issue. There is little room to meet halfway and agree on both sides because it is a life-or-death question. It is this characteristic of abortion that makes this matter clearly controversial. People who are for and people who are against abortion have different views due to their own personal faiths through religion. Controversy then builds when these two sides take a different approach in looking at "pro-life" and "pro-choice.".
Those who do not approve abortion consider it to be a very serious violation of the right to live. They judge abortion using personal ethics and morals, and, therefore, they believe abortion to be ethically and morally wrong. In their eyes, abortion is a means to end a human life and the "easy" way out of taking responsibility. In deciding if abortion is right or not, those against abortion seem to have a stronger argument since life and death are very serious issues. .
Those opposed to abortion see a developing fetus from the time of conception as a living, human life. A fetus is considered to be a human life because it is the origin of human life. All humans were once fetuses at one point, so through abortion, an actual human life will be destroyed as the developing fetus is cut off from its support from the outside world. People opposed to abortion believe that those who do take part in abortion are murderers. This is because a fetus, no matter how small and insignificant it may appear to be, is an entity of a human life nonetheless. They reason that "from the very start, a fetus is a human being with full human rights, including the right not to be killed" ("Ethics" 329). They argue that the right of the unborn fetus to live supersedes the right of a woman to choose whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term. .
Teachings and lessons from religious faiths also contribute greatly in fighting abortion.
