Traditional Vs. Self Directed Learning

At a self directed learning school you would plan according to your time the amount of work you could accomplish. So if I got home from driving school at 7 I might finish the essay and do very well or maybe I should do a chapter of law and catch up on some accounting. This gives me the next evening to study for my Chemistry test and finish my essay during the day at school. Having the flexibility given by the self-directed learning method, grades might be higher because you have the amount of time needed in order to complete an assignment. .
In a self-directed learning school you only see each one of you teachers every two weeks during scheduled days. In order to see your teacher for additional help and guidance between your classes it is up to you to go into the resource area when they are scheduled to be on the floor. For many course this sometimes becomes a problem. Since there is only one of your teacher, and they have many students, many times you run into line-ups. It is as though you are waiting for hours sometimes in order to ask a question or review work. For most students this process becomes extremely frustrating especially when heading into the math department. Since math is something everyone is constantly needing extra help with the line ups seem to be everlasting and the few minutes you get with your teacher never seem to solve your misunderstanding of a concept. Although not being able to receive help from your teachers makes you turn to fellow classmates in other grades for the support and extra help that is needed. This allows kids of all grades to become friends separating the borders, which had once divided them. At a traditional school, whether it be semestered or non-semestered, you see your teachers on regular basis giving you that support and explanation which is sometimes needed. Although it also puts up invisible borders, dividing us by our grades. It does not push us to look for answers elsewhere when we cannot find them in front of our face.
