Views On Abortion

.
There are three different kinds of views when dealing with abortion. There is a conservative, liberal, and moderate view. In the conservative view, abortion is always wrong. In a liberal view, abortion is always permissible and in a moderate view abortion is in between the two extremes.
Mary Anne Warren, who defends the liberal view on abortion, argues that the fetus is not a person. She says that the fetus has very few features that resemble a person and that it cannot be said to have significant right to life. Warren believes that a fetus that isn't able to feel pleasure and pain is not considered to be human. According to Warren sentience and viability have a lot to do with the moral status of abortion? Mary Anne Warren believes that one is human in the moral sense when one is "a full-fledged member of the moral community"(Warren, p 767); therefore, she believes that a woman's right to obtain an abortion is absolute. .
However, John T. Noonan believes in the conservative view, where there should never be abortion. Noonan believes that the fetus is a human being from conception. "Once conceived, the being was recognized as a man because he had man's potential"(Noonan, p759). I disagree with that statement because the fetus is not formed into a human once it is conceived. I believe a fetus is a human being after birth, because it has finished developing.
Another argument pertaining to abortion deals with the permissibility of abortion under certain circumstances. This fulfills the moderate point of view concerning abortion. .
Moderates believe that abortion can be permissible even if the fetus is considered to be a person. They believe abortion should be allowed in specific cases. To say that abortion is immoral is to say that pregnancies caused by incest and rape is moral. Abortion cannot be immoral when caused by powerful forces and violent abuses such as rape.
