Chicago the city that is today , is the unique combination of its physical characteristics and Cultural characteristics. Physical characteristics are an excess when you talk about Chicago. The city of Chicago covers an area of about 227 square miles. It also is bordered by 29 miles of Lake Michigan. The Chicago River flows west from Lake Michigan through the downtown area, where it forks into a North Branch and a South Branch; and the Calumet River, in the south, which connects with the small Lake Calumet. Both of these rivers have canals that link them to the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. The city's growth was greatly affected by its location of waterways because of its access to markets and raw materials. One of Chicago's biggest trademark is its reputation as "The Windy City-. There are occasions when strong winds blow in from the plains and through the skyscraper district downtown. I have been to what they say is the windiest intersection in Chicago at Oak Street and Michigan Avenue, and boy does that wind blow. Other than the wind Chicago's climate is quite pleasant, because of its latitude and low elevation. Between April and October the days are hot and sunny. The humidity is always high in the area too, which makes you soaking wet walking around town. It's during the winter season that people should be most wary about. Between November and early March the temperature often drops to below freezing. The winters often bring ice storms and blizzards. If you like the best of both worlds, the cold and warmth then Chicago is the place for you. .
Human Environmental Interactions- Chicago since the mid 1850's, has gone through a tremendous environmental change. Chicago appealed too so many people and business' that it was a matter of time before this beautiful landscape would be transformed. The business aspect of Chicago, has used the city's accessible water ways as an advantage for both importing and exporting materials and raw goods.
