In India, a head nod can mean "yes, I heard you "or rather "yes, I agree," and a peculiar sideways head bob can show agreement ( the more forceful the movement, the stronger the agreement) (Gebhardt, M.).
To many traditional Greeks and Middle Easterners, an upward head nod means "no". Also in many parts of the Middle East, foreign presenters should be aware that the right hand is the preferred hand to use for all public and social graces, such as gesticulating, eating, and hand shaking. Use of the left hand is reserved for life's more private duties (Gebhardt, M.).
Disagreements; are one of the most common barriers in communication and the lack of knowledge in the beliefs of cultures. Some cultures may believe in Buddha; as the almighty and others believe God is the almighty, while one culture believes in one almighty; this does not make that culture wrong, it is simply there own belief, and if a person wants to communicate with that culture ;that person should not only study the cultures language but; also study there beliefs.
The subconscious character of surrealism makes explanation and critics problematic. Japanese surrealism and its interactions with the French culture become even more difficult to explicate through a scholarly text in English, a third language that was also, at times the medium of those interactions (Swain, J.D.).
Impact on Healthcare.
Communication is critical to providing appropriate healthcare for a variety of cultures. Speaking the same language does not always guarantee effective communication in a country like the United States that has such a vast array of not only cultures, but also religious and sociological beliefs.
Speaking different languages not only creates confusion and misunderstanding, but add in the medical terminology, and most often pain factors, and this tends to escalate the probability of miscommunication. Providing medical care when a language barrier exists is a challenging endeavor.
