I silently thought about instructions to help make my script reading go well. To make my lines full with expression. I didn't want to bore the director and the audience by saying the lines with the expression of the guy on the clear eyes commercial. Posses character while using expression to say your lines. If the character was a little bratty kid, I want to say the line with expression that the character of a little bratty kid would use. Make use of facial expressions and body movements. I didn't want to burry my nose in the book and stand in one place rocking back and forth like a rocking chair. If I had a happy line, I wanted to smile and laugh and use facial expressions to show I"m happy. I also needed to use my hands, arms, and body movements to show I"m happy. .
Finally, my name was called to read. I felt my heart thump rapidly in my chest. Sweat beads trickled down my face and formed a glistening layer on my forehead. As I walked toward the stage, each step became more difficult to take. My legs felt as if they were dragging weights. As I approached the stage, I started to think the worse. What if I lacked expression, character, facial expressions, and body movements? What do I do if I skip or misread a line while reading? What happens if I miss a cue to read a line and there is a long, awkward silence? .
When I stepped on stage, the warmth of a bright, yellow, spotlight on my face welcomed me as it shined in my eyes. When I looked down at the script bright colors danced across the white page as the letters meshed together to form little black blobs.
I shut my eyes tightly and then opened them. The colors transformed into white and the little black blobs transformed into a's, b's, and c's. Before I knew it, I completed my script reading and was returning back to my little seat tucked in the corner.
With the script reading portion of the audition completed, I only had to finish the singing portion and the audition would be complete.
B's last directed play entitled, "Noises Off." I remember how scared I was to audition, and how I really didn't know anyone there. ...
